The Hunger Games is about a a young girl named Katniss Evedeen. Every year in the country of Panem, they have the "Hunger Games". The games are a fight to the death by 24 kids between the ages 12 and 18. There are 12 districts so 2 tributes (children) from each district, so 1 male and 1 female. The process of the choosing is called "The Reaping". On the day of the reaping in District 12, the poorest district, Katniss's little sister is reaped. Katniss, who loves her sister dearly, volunteers to die.
The male tribute from District 12 that was chosen was Peeta Mellark. He was as rich as you could get in District 12, unlike Katniss, who had to break the law in order to get a bite to eat. His family owned a bakery. They are both sent to the Capital to get pampered, trained and interviewed, only to be sent to the games. The night before the games start, each tribute is interviewed. Katniss talks about her sister but when Peeta comes on stage, he confesses his love for Katniss.
As they enter the game, they care not about others, only about living, which in their case, is pretty difficult. Near the end of the games, she reunites with Peeta and grows to care for him. Yet she already has a crush, named Gale, back home. Get caught in the story as you watch Katniss fight two battles at once, the physical one, where, she battles the other tributes to death, or the mental one, where she is forced to chose between Peeta and Gale. And remember, there is only one victor.
